Refractory castable is a finished mixed material containing aggregates (similar to "refractory concrete"), while refractory cement is a pure cementitious powder (aluminate cement). The former can be directly mixed with water for monolithic furnace lining casting, whereas the latter is only used as a binder or for preparing mortar.
Composition: Refractory aggregates (70–80%) + fine powder + binder (usually refractory cement) + additives
Form: Dry mixture of particles and fine powder; forms flowable slurry after mixing with water
Composition: Pure calcium aluminate fine powder (Al₂O₃ content: 50–80%), no coarse aggregates
